Frequently asked questions

How many litter boxes do I need?

The general rule is one litter box per cat, plus one extra. So for one cat, two boxes. For two cats, three boxes. This reduces territorial stress and keeps boxes cleaner for longer.

My cat is refusing to use the litter box. What could be wrong?

Common reasons include the box being too small, not cleaned frequently enough, placed in a high-traffic or noisy area, or a sudden change in litter type. Your cat should be able to turn around comfortably inside the box. Scoop daily and do a full clean weekly. If the issue persists, consult your vet, as litter box avoidance can sometimes indicate a health issue.

How do I introduce a new litter box to my cat?

Place the new box next to the old one initially. Put a small amount of used litter from the old box into the new one. The familiar scent encourages use. Once your cat is consistently using the new box, remove the old one.

How do I control litter box odour?

Scoop at least once daily. Do a full litter change and box wash weekly. The OdourShield Litter Box has a built-in odour-control design that helps between cleanings. Placing the box in a ventilated area also helps.

Is a covered litter box better than an open one?

Covered boxes give cats more privacy and contain odour better. However, some cats, especially larger cats or anxious cats, prefer open boxes where they can see their surroundings. If your cat avoids the covered box, try removing the lid.
